How business credit actually works — the honest timeline.

You have seen the reel: "Exposed — business funding in 30 days using 4 websites." The screen flashes $50,000–$250,000, a few tabs, and a texting screenshot of someone getting rich. The mechanics on that screen are real. The timeline and the dollar amount are oversold — and the video usually ends at a paid coaching program. Here is the honest version, in plain English, free, with nothing to buy.

General information, not financial or legal advice. No one can guarantee a funding amount or a date.

The 30-day pitch vs. what really happens

The reel's promise

  • "$50k–$250k in 30 days" from setting up 4 websites.
  • Fix your D&B profile today, get funded this month.
  • A PAYDEX of 80 appears almost immediately.
  • Buy the tradelines, pay the $50/mo, and the money hits.
  • A screenshot of "Aaron" as proof it works for everyone.

The honest reality

  • The mechanics are legitimate — business credit is a real, separate credit file.
  • A PAYDEX 80 needs several vendors reporting over a billing cycle — a few months, not 30 days.
  • The "$250k" is an advertised vendor credit limit, not cash wired to you.
  • Real bank or SBA funding wants time in business + revenue, often a personal guarantee.
  • The texting screenshot is marketing — a funnel into a paid program.

3–12 months
is the honest window to go from a brand-new entity to a real fundable business credit file — done right, and for most people. Anyone promising 30 days and a guaranteed number is selling you the dream, not the build.

The "4 websites" — what each one actually is

Every version of this pitch points at the same handful of tools. None of them are secret, and none of them cost hundreds to use. Here is the plain truth about what each does.

1. Dun & Bradstreet

dnb.com

The foundation. You get a free D-U-N-S number (a business ID) and D&B tracks your PAYDEX score, 0–100. 80 = you pay on time. Your file only grows once vendors that report to D&B see you actually pay them.

2. Nav

nav.com

A dashboard that shows your business credit across the bureaus and matches you to net-30/60/90 vendor "tradelines." Useful. But the big "$50k–$250k" on screen is a vendor program's advertised range (often ~$200 once + ~$50/mo), not funding you are approved for.

3. Experian Business

experian.com/small-business

Experian keeps a separate business file and score (Intelliscore). Lenders pull it. You set up your profile with the right SIC/NAICS industry codes so your business looks established and legitimate.

4. Equifax Business / SBFE

equifax.com · sbfe.org

The other bureau (and the Small Business Financial Exchange, where banks share data). Your net-30 tradelines report here too. More bureaus seeing on-time payments = a stronger, fundable profile.

Put simply: those four are your D-U-N-S + PAYDEX, a dashboard + vendor matcher, and the two other bureaus that record your payments. That is the whole "secret."

The honest timeline — do it yourself, free

This is the real order of operations. No coaching program required. Move at the pace your business actually earns.

  1. Week 0 · The foundationMake the business real and separate. Form the LLC, get a free EIN from the IRS, open a business bank account, and get a real business phone and address. Lenders and bureaus check that you look like a genuine, consistent business before anything else.
  2. Weeks 1–2 · Get on the mapRegister with the bureaus. Request your free D-U-N-S number from D&B and set up your Experian and Equifax business profiles with consistent name, address, phone and industry (SIC/NAICS) codes. Same details everywhere.
  3. Months 1–3 · Start the fileOpen net-30 vendor accounts — and pay early. Open a handful of starter net-30 tradelines with vendors that report (that word matters — a vendor that does not report does nothing for you). Buy things you would buy anyway, then pay before the due date. On-time and early is what builds the score.
  4. Months 3–6 · PAYDEX 80Let the cycles report. As several tradelines report on-time payments over a billing cycle, your PAYDEX climbs toward 80. This is the step the reels compress into "30 days." It is not instant — it is a few reporting cycles.
  5. Months 6–12 · Step upStore cards, then revolving credit. With a real file, you qualify for store/fleet cards and small revolving business credit — some without a personal guarantee. Keep utilization low and every payment on time.
  6. Month 12+ · Real fundingBank lines, SBA, real capital. This is where actual $50k+ lives. Banks and the SBA want time in business (often 1–2 years), revenue, and usually a personal guarantee on top of your credit file. Your build gets you approved — and at better terms.
What the "$50,000–$250,000" number really is: on that Nav screen it is an advertised credit-limit range for a vendor program — the maximum you might eventually access across accounts, not cash a lender is handing a brand-new LLC. Treat it like a car ad's "as low as" price: real, but not what most people get on day one.

Red flags in the coaching pitch

The setup is legitimate. The sales tactics around it are where people get burned. If a program says any of these, keep your money.

"Guaranteed $250k, no matter what."No one can guarantee a lender's decision. Funding depends on your revenue, time in business and profile.
"Funded in 30 days, brand-new business."A PAYDEX 80 needs reporting cycles. 30 days to a real bank line for a week-old LLC is not how it works.
"Buy an aged/shelf corporation."Presenting an old shell as your operating history to a lender can be fraud. Build a real file instead.
"Never needs a personal guarantee."Some vendor accounts skip it; most real funding for a young business does not. Anyone who promises "never" is overselling.
"$2,000 for my funding secrets."The steps on this page are the "secrets," free. Pay for a licensed pro to set up your structure, not for a checklist.
"DM my VIP for the plug."Screenshots of a "student" getting funded are marketing props, not proof it works for you.
